Modified blue route

On September 6, 2024, Xcel Energy filed testimony with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission noting our preference for what is termed the Modified Blue Route, shown on the above map in blue and orange. Our analysis shows this route is the least impactful overall route.

All route options are still under consideration by the Commission, which is expected to make a decision on if the project should be approved and, if so, which route should be selected.

Xcel Energy proposed two route options when the MN Energy Connection Route Permit application was filed in late 2023, the purple route and blue route. In addition to those two route options, we also proposed several connector routes shown in yellow on the map above.

As part of the State of Minnesota’s review process, landowners and other stakeholders have the ability to suggest additional route options for consideration by the Commission. Those route options are shown below in pink. Landowners affected by the new routes will be notified by mail by the State of Minnesota.

Xcel Energy is working with state staff to coordinate public hearings for the project, which are expected to be held this fall.
